Choosing a neighbourhood is a task that’s filled with fun and excitement. But the big question becomes, how should you choose? That’s what we’re here for. To help you find the perfect place to settle down for your next chapter. Whether you’re looking in Midland, Barrie our beyond Simcoe County, a Team Jordan Agent can point you in the right direction.

Research Nearby Schools

Find out what school boards with schools in the neighbourhood. There’s likely a public and Catholic board, along with private schools operating in the area. Discover what elementary and secondary schools are closest and if there are within walking distance or if buses available. Depending on your needs, it may be best to find out what time the nearest schools start and end at, along with daycare options.

Discover the Closest Parks

Are parks important to you? Although they may not be important now, they may become important in time. Look at a map and find the closest city parks. Check for any nearby walking trails or soccer fields that you can use. Either way, it’s a good idea to explore and find out what’s available in the immediate area.

Go for a Walk or Drive

Once you’re familiar with schools and parks, take a walk or drive around the neighbourhood to get a feel for what’s close by. Not only will you have a chance to take in all that the area has to offer, but you’ll also get a feel for how long it takes to walk or drive to nearby locations. What better way to get a sense of what the neighbourhood is all about?

Learn about Transit Options

Walking, trains and buses - Simcoe County has it all. Many parts of our region offer convenient transit options. In Midland, we’re fortunate to have the local bus and access to the Simcoe County LINX bus. Barrie has more transit options, including the GO Train that runs straight to Toronto. When looking at new neighbourhoods, determine what transit options you need quick access to. Depending on where you’re looking, there may be different modes of transportation available.

Find out about Property Taxes

Property taxes vary based on location. When you’re looking at neighbourhood options, find out what the local property taxes are. Consider how long you’re planning on living in the neighbourhood and determine what the long-term cost will be. This way, you’ll have a better idea of the overall cost of living.

Check Out the Demographics

Find out what the demographics are of the local residents. This way, you’ll get a feel for the age of those who live in the neighbourhood. By taking a look, you’ll have a better understanding of what stage other people in the neighbourhood are at. This may help to find out if the neighbourhood is family oriented or mostly made up of retirees.

Explore Other Amenities

What else is important to have nearby? Maybe a local community centre or hockey rink. If you’re interested in specific hobbies, find out if there are others in the area who have the same interests. Check for Facebook Groups or do a Google search to explore what’s available in the neighbourhood.
