Our client who recently purchased a home during a global pandemic reflects on her move and what it meant to work with Team Jordan.

Purchasing your first home is an entirely new experience and one that can oftentimes feels stressful on its own. Combine that experience with a global pandemic and you’ve got quite a few things happening at once. Mel corresponded with Team Jordan via e-mail.

Are you glad you made the choice to buy during COVID-19?

Yes! I should also add that it was a necessity for us. Our lease was coming to an end and we needed another place to live as renewing our lease was not a viable option. We are so glad we made the choice to purchase our first home even though it was during COVID-19.

Was there anything about the buying process that made you feel unsafe in any way?

Luckily, no. We were fortunate enough to have protective gear and we made sure that we were washing our hands, not touching anything and keeping a safe distance from our realtor, Leanne.

I did have to travel to the bank at one point because the financial institution that our mortgage is through required that I sign the paperwork in person. I wasn’t super keen on this but I just did everything I could to stay safe and found that the financial institution had the proper protocol in place to do their part to keep others safe as well.

Have you been able to have friends or family members come by for a safe outdoor gathering?

We’ve been in our home just over a month now and we did not have any friends or family members come for outdoor gatherings. We just did not feel it was safe at the time when we first moved in. However, recently we are starting to warm up to the idea more of having friends and family come by on nice sunny days for a socially distant, outdoor visit.

We just want to keep our friends and family safe so we are trying to navigate that the best way we can.

What are three things about the home buying process that surprised you?

That the first time home buyer (myself and my partner in this case) are the main point of communication between all of the people helping you purchase your home. That it doesn’t feel real until you get the keys in your hands. And that nothing feels better than knowing the home is yours.

What did you do when you moved into your home to ensure that you felt safe?

We were really fortunate to have had cleaning supplies that we used at our previous apartment because at the time we were moving in, a lot of supplies were hard to come by.

Before moving in any of our possessions we actually spent a ton of time cleaning. Basically, any surface was wiped down and sanitized. Now I would have wanted to clean the house regardless but this was something that I was super adamant about because of COVID-19.

What would you say to others who are currently looking to purchase a home?

I would say that it is so important to work with a team that you can trust. Team Jordan made a really stressful situation a lot easier for us and made sure that we always felt safe throughout the entire process and in my opinion, that’s what matters most. Our realtor Leanne was amazing but what was also great was that Leanne had a whole team behind her to ensure that we were always getting the most up to date information.
