Set yourself up for success by reviewing the list below, taking a look at the tools that you have around your house and filling in any missing gaps.
Tape Measure: Whether you’re measuring a wall to hang a photo or checking the size of a space, homeowners should have a tape measure around the house. Tape measures are useful for a variety of tasks and they can be easily stored in a drawer or tucked away in a toolbox.
Hammer: If you don’t already have one, a hammer is an ideal tool to keep around the house that can come in handy for small and large projects. From popping a nail back in, to pulling one out, a hammer is a useful tool for all homeowners to invest in.
Screwdriver Set: With so many do it yourself options readily available for homeowners to dive into, a screwdriver set is nearly essential to have around the house. When you purchase a set, you’ll have peace of mind knowing all sizes and head types are included. If you’re tight on space, a multibit screwdriver is a great alternative to save on space.
Flashlight: Yikes, don’t get caught in the dark! Even though phone flashlights are usually at our fingertips, every homeowner should have a full-size flashlight as backup. It’s a good idea to check the batteries regularly and keep extras around just in case.
Power Drill: Although you may not use a power drill every day, it’s a good idea to have one in your home for those unexpected situations. Power drills are available in a wide range of prices with electrical and cordless options to choose from.
Stepladder: It’s a good idea to keep a stepladder on hand for those times when you need to grab something that’s out of reach. Foldable and easy to store, stepladders can be kept in a utility room or tucked away in any closet in your house.
Batteries: From the smoke alarm and garage door opener, all the way to flashlights and remote controls, there are likely more items around us that are battery powered than we realize. To keep everything working, having backup batteries at home is highly recommended.
Duct Tape: Strong, reliable and great for temporary fixes, every homeowner should consider investing in a roll of duct tape. Easy to store and useful in many situations, you can’t go wrong with keeping a roll of duct tape around the house.
Spirit Level: Hanging a photo? Don’t forget to use a level to check that it’s straight! Spirit levels are a handy tool to keep around and can be used in many situations that homeowners find themselves in. Bonus: some spirit levels come with built in rulers.
